Because sometimes, nap time is all a busy mom gets.
I’m always a busy mom: from September through May I teach at a college full time, and them I stay home with my son during the summer. In theory, this time off gives me a lot of time to side hustle – in reality, my son just wants my attention at all times.
My son is almost 6 months old now, which means he is soon going to be more independent and won’t need me to carry him everywhere. I’m cherishing these moments, but also feeling extremely antsy as I watch the clock throughout the day. After all, I have a challenge to meet!
I have started to become the master working during nap time. It isn’t always easy, but every busy mom needs a side hustle that can be done quickly, quietly, from anywhere, and sometimes even while nursing!
Busy moms can do a lot of things to make more money!
No matter whether you stay home with your children, work from home, or work outside of the home, you probably want to make more money. Consider some of these ideas for making quick money while the kids sleep:
Get paid to do what you already do.
If you don’t like shopping with the kids around, consider using an online tool like Ebates to get paid for doing your normal online shopping.
I don’t spend a lot of money online, but every now and then an excellent Groupon will show up, or I need to order a refill of my vitamins from Amazon. Ebates will give you a portion of your purchase back if you go through their website. They also have a signup bonus right now: get either a $10 Walmart gift card or $10 Ebates cash if you sign up and make qualifying purchases.
Clean out your closet.
I must suffer from some sort of clothing amnesia. Every now and then I open my closet and think, “why did I ever think this would look good?”
If you come across clothes that you rarely wear and are in good condition, I highly recommend selling them on Tradesy. I have used them before, and they make the shipping process easy! Just take pictures of your clothes, shoes or accessories, give a brief description of the item, and set your price.
Be a social networking boss.
Companies and busy individuals sometimes need social media management, and what better person to do so than a busy mom with some downtime during baby’s nap? Since my son naps 2-3 times per day, I have a few nicely spaced out breaks throughout the day which would be perfect for updating someone’s Facebook business page, tweeting potential customers, and adding pictures to Pinterest and Instagram.
Upwork is one location where you can find social media management jobs, but there are many other places.
You could also use this time to market your own blog or product on social media; use nap time wisely to reach out to other moms who might be using nap time to network, chat, or shop online.
My favorite Busy Mom Hustle is writing.
Of course! Writing (particularly online) is one of the easiest side hustles for a busy mom to do when her son (like mine) goes through a stage of refusing to nap unless he is in direct contact with her. Once my son falls asleep, I type up blog post ideas, apply for writing jobs, and do research for articles straight from my phone.
There are so many other ways busy moms can make money!
